Everything you need to know about McAlpine wastes

When it comes to fitting wastes on kitchen or bathroom sinks, as well as basins, showers and baths, using the best quality brand will ensure that your customers always enjoy the best results. At Bathshack, we take great care to source premium products for our retail and trade customers alike, which is why we supply McAlpine wastes – a trusted brand which manufactures top-of-the-range wastes you can depend on.

Bathroom wastes can be matched to customers’ preferred colour palettes, for example, with matt black, chrome and brass finishes.

Innovative family-run company

Like ourselves, McAlpine is a family-run business and has been since 1902, when they started manufacturing. Having built up a reputation over the years for supplying incredibly high-quality plumbing products, they’re subsequently become market leaders and are the go-to choice for plumbers across the UK, Ireland and further afield, exporting to more than 80 countries globally.

With McApline products specifically designed for installation by professional tradespeople, their innovative designs are inspired by what their customers want – and it’s why we’ve always stocked them, from the very beginning.

Benefits of McAlpine wastes include:

  • High flow rate: Many self-builders often install standard wastes into their showers, similar to those fitted with basin or a kitchen sink. However, McAlpine wastes have a high flow rate, so are much more efficient and better suited to showers. Being able to remove water quickly is also more important with low-profile shower trays than with older styles, so this is another great benefit of McAlpine wastes. It’s also the reason why at Bathshack, McAlpine wastes are the only ones we sell with our showers.

NB The flow rate will depend on the type of waste being installed, the water going over it and the discharge pipework, but ‘McAlpine 50mm water seal shower traps have flow rates varying from 20 to 50 litres per minute with a 15mm head of water over the waste outlet and when tested under controlled conditions. All traps meet the minimum requirements of BS EN 274-2:2002.’

Having high flow rates on shower wastes is key to ensuring efficient removal of water during use.

  • Traps: A small but significant innovation, the McAlpine waste traps collect debris such as hair and other items which might potentially block the drains. Just lift the chrome cover and lift out the trap to remove buildup. It has the added benefit that, should things like jewellery accidentally fall down the waste, it will be caught in the trap and easily retrieved. Cleaning out the trap once a week will also help to keep everything in good working order.
  • Easy installation: McAlpine wastes are relatively straightforward for the professional plumber to install, which saves time and makes jobs more efficient.
  • Easy to keep clean: It’s always a perk to have an easily maintained product and the McAlpine waste won’t let you down on this front – something you can also tell your own customers during installation.
  • Available in different heights and cover cap finishes: Great for those customers who might want a brass, black, or chrome waste to match their shower frame, for example, McAlpine wastes are quite versatile. Meanwhile, the different height options also means they can be used with a range of products.
  • Spare parts are available: It’s unlikely that you’ll need them but, should replacement parts be required for your McApline wastes, then these can be obtained quite easily.
