A tradesman’s guide to bath taps
When it comes to bath taps, there are a whole host of different styles available, depending on customer preference and what type of bath they have. Most baths no longer come with tapholes pre-drilled, so if you need any information on doing this, then check out our blog here.
In this article, however, we’ll be taking a look at the various bath tap options available, including those from our core product range which are ready for instant pick-up at our Antrim warehouse.
Deck vs wall-mounted taps
Most traditional baths previously came with deck-mounted pillar-style taps, which is the typical two-tap set-up with one separate hot and cold tap and two tapholes drilled onto the bath itself. There are various advantages to fitting pillar taps, as the separate water sources mean you can control the temperature by mixing these to your preferred warmth. They can also be a more cost-effective option for your customers, so are a good all-round choice.
Available in a range of finishes – such as polished chrome, matt black and brushed brass – along with an array of tap handle designs, pillar taps have a classic look and are ideal for all baths except freestanding styles.
The Eliseo Ricci L-series Bath Pillar Taps in Chrome blend the classic pillar tap style with a more modern aesthetic, featuring lever handles which have a sleek, contemporary look. With internal ceramic disc technology for more precise function and a long life, these are ideal for the modern bathroom and are easy to operate, with a great price point.

Wall-mounted bath taps, meanwhile, are a more modern concept and also come with their own benefits, not least in giving your customers a more visually interesting product. Installed onto the wall rather than the bath, these taps have their pipework concealed behind the wall, so all that’s visible is the spout and handle/s.
If your customers are looking for something with ‘wow factor’, then wall-mounted taps are therefore a great choice. They’re also much easier to clean, as they won’t accumulate the soap and calcium deposits that deck-mounted taps would, being higher up.
There’s also the option of positioning the taps more centrally, so your customer doesn’t have to put them at a particular end of the bath but can instead locate them at the midpoint.
The Hudson Reed Tec Single-lever Wall-mounted Basin/Bath-filler in Brushed Brass has a stylish, minimalist look and an elegant brushed brass finish which will complement a range of bathroom décor. With a handy lever-style handle it’s simple to operate and again, has ceramic disc technology internally to ensure long-life and reliable operation. The sleek design with the brushed brass wall plate, spout and lever subsequently gives it a contemporary aesthetic, making it ideal for all sorts of baths.
Bath/shower mixer taps are another option for baths if your customers want to combine the benefits of a tap with a shower handset. Fitted with a diverter which allows the water flow to be directed to either the taps or shower feature, these deliver a single stream of water, with the hot and cold mixed internally and then exiting via a single spout.
For example, the Eliseo Ricci Neo Wall-mounted Bath/Shower Mixer in Chrome has a stylish polished chrome finish, with a single-lever design and quarter-turn mechanism for convenience.
Meanwhile, the Eliseo Ricci Traditional English Balmoral Bath/Shower Mixer is part of our core product range, so is available for immediate collection from our Antrim warehouse. With a classic style, this elegant mixer includes white detailing on the shower handset along with polished chrome pillar-style taps with a crosshead design and a single mixer spout.

Freestanding bath taps
If your customers opt for a freestanding bath, however, then they can choose either wall-mounted bath taps or go down the route of freestanding taps. These are designed to stand next to the bath and provide an elegant alternative and a contemporary style, with a range of designs and finishes available.
r example, the Eliseo Ricci Vesu Floorstanding Bath/Shower Mixer in Black has an attractive matt black finish which gives a chic, contemporary edge to the tap and will complement a range of bathroom décor. Easy to operate, it has a handy lever-style tap function along with a quarter-turn mechanism, while it also incorporates Eco-click technology to prevent drips and conserve water.

Again, it comes in a modern matt black finish, while it also includes ceramic disc technology for a long life and smooth operation, along with the handset and quarter-turn mechanism.
