A tradesman’s guide to shower doors

IfItDoesntMatchAnyMedia

When it comes to showers there are lots of choices for your customers in terms of enclosures and doors. With this in mind, we’ve subsequently included an overview of these below, including some of our core products which are available for easy pick-up from our Antrim showroom without the need to pre-order.

Whether your customers have a corner shower, a large bathroom with plenty of space or a more compact interior which needs a space-saving shower door solution, we have something to suit everyone. So, read to the end of the blog to find out more about what we supply and for some examples of our most popular products.

Different types of shower doors

There are various options available for high-quality shower doors, including framed, frameless and more, so if your customers are unsure about which to go for, here’s the lowdown.

Bi-fold

The bi-fold shower door is ideal if space is limited, as these are made up of several glass panels which fold in on themselves when you open or close the door. They therefore don’t protrude into the bathroom so won’t take up any floor space.

An example of one of our bi-fold doors is the Nuie Pacific Bi-Fold Shower Door which has a polished chrome frame and a reversible design. This Easy-fit door comes with 4mm safety glass and is suitable for use in a recess or with a side panel to make a full enclosure.

In-fold

Also a space-saving door, but with some extension into the room, the in-fold shower door swings partly inwards and maximises the width of the entry space into the shower. The door folds back to the side so that it sits with half the glass in the shower and half outside (see photo below of the Kiimat Eight² 900mm In-fold Shower Door).

Hinged

Ideal for bathrooms with more space, hinged shower doors consist of a single glass panel which has hinges to one side and swings in one direction – often outwards into the room – to allow entry to the shower.

The hinge mechanism itself can be attached to the glass panel or to the wall or shower enclosure frame. Often seen on standalone shower enclosures, hinged doors can also be used for shower-bath combos and are relatively straightforward to fit.

Quadrant

The quadrant shower enclosure is designed to fit corner showers and has a curved front with either hinged or sliding doors. Another great space-saving design, the curved front helps to maximise space in the room, making it easier to move around while also giving a sleek aesthetic and a softer, more organic style.

An offset quadrant enclosure, on the other hand, is great for larger spaces and can be either left or right-sided.

Pivot

Designed with two pins at the top and bottom of the shower enclosure frame, pivot doors can open in either direction and are another good space-saving solution for smaller bathrooms. The Roman Haven8 Pivot Shower Door is in this style and has an attractive polished silver frame.

The door, which is made of 8mm-thick safety glass, opens outwards and is hinged onto the wall, while also being suitable for fitting on the left or right-hand side.

Sliding

A popular choice for many homeowners, the sliding shower door is very versatile and, as the name suggests, slides easily open for effortless entry to the shower.

With a designer look and very easy to keep clean, sliding doors are a great investment and give maximum entry to the shower.

They’re also good for saving on space, so if this is an issue for your customers, then it’s a great all-round choice.

Side panel

Our final featured shower door is the side panel, a static glass pane which can be framed, frameless or semi-frameless and is there to prevent water from leaking out into the bathroom. For example, the Dawn Athena Side Panel comes with an elegant brushed brass frame, while the Dawn Apollo Framed Side Panel has a polished chrome finish.
